For close to a decade, Detroit-based AFG has been near to our hearts and the crew has delivered to this incredible organization that assists homeless and at-risk women and girls. Those of you who have delivered the Chef's dinners at the joints for this cause know how much that Joints donation generates annually for AFG... and we continue to provide those sneak peak dinners for future joints as an auction item at the annual fundraiser we help to produce for them. This year's auction item was a chef's dinner in the new Detroit joint's private dining room... The annual reports that Union AdWorks creates are some of our team's proudest moments and most moving pieces. We designed a culinary inreach program for AFG that was part of the Brewster-Wheeler activation... and we remain committed to working with the team there to make this happen... somewhere. There is no organization quite like AFG; and we continue to do all we can to help them do all that they do.

Union Joints has been aligned with Clarkston-based SCAMP since we started all of this back in 1995. It wasn't hard to see all that this organization was doing for kids with special needs right in our backyard. From our Catering Crew handling the catering needs for their annual Jingle Mingle (we didn't name it, we just cater it) to donating our spaces (90 N. Main has hosted events) and our crew (we've provided bartenders to their fundraisers for years), Union Joints continues to be one of SCAMP's Diamond sponsors. The loss of the summer camp this year is devastating for the participants; but it's even missed by the Union AdWorks crew. We've setup and run their annual carnival for the past few years: and the team that signs up to run that event from UAW always comes back worn out but absolutely fired up by what they see from the kids out there.

When our friend from the ad business--Rob Strasberg--and his wife Treger started Humble Design; we knew he had the connections to do something big... and they've done it. Humble Design works with corporations to receive new, donated items to outfit homes for those in need or who have faced challenges. Since the start, they've gone in with their crew and outfitted thousands of homes--from carpet to beds to sheets to fridges... paint and paper and all that... in a way that absolutely floors those they've helped. We've been catering their annual fundraiser from the get-go... but have since used our upcoming joints as a chance to donate a special dinner, etc., to the highest bidder.
We've also witnessed first-hand what a difference Humble Design can make. Donyetta Hill is a community organizer, activist and friend that we've worked with since our early Brewster-Wheeler days. Donyetta has been helping Union Joints since last year as our Detroit Team Builder; working to recruit a Detroit-based crew for our upcoming Detroit joint. As she made connections on our behalf; we made one to Humble Designs on her behalf. As a new first-time homeowner--whose path from the Brewster-Douglas development has been anything but easy--Donyetta's story resonated with the folks at Humble. Their makeover of her place was both epic and touching... and a reminder of what groups like Humble can do.
